Brahmavar, Feb 15: A late-night journey to seek blessings at Kollur Mookambika Temple nearly turned disastrous after a car reportedly misled by Google Maps ended up at the edge of a stream at Upladi off the Sahebrakattte main road in Kota on Friday night.
According to sources, a family from Kerala was travelling to Kollur for darshan. Instead of proceeding straight along National Highway 66, the driver followed a diversion route shown on the navigation app and moved towards Kota via Brahmavar and Barkur through Sahebrakattte.

On reaching near the Upladi stream, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The car first collided with an electric pole and then mounted a cement pillar along the stream bund before coming to a halt.
The vehicle reportedly stopped barely a foot away from a slushy pit leading into the stream, narrowly averting what could have been a serious tragedy.
Five persons, including women and children, were travelling in the car. Fortunately, all of them escaped without injuries.
On receiving information, personnel from Kota Police Station rushed to the spot. With the assistance of locals, the occupants were safely rescued from the vehicle.
A case has been registered at Kota Police Station in connection with the incident.
