Mumbai, Jan 7: In a shocking incident, as many as 60 silver and gold-studded trophies, collectively valued at Rs 15.24 lakh, allegedly won by a prominent club owner in Mumbai, were stolen by his domestic help, police said.

The Gamdevi police have registered a case in connection with the theft, which reportedly occurred between 2023 and November 2025 at a flat located in Westfield Estate Compound, Breach Candy, in south Mumbai.

According to police, the complainant Shiven Surendranath (59), an advertisement film director and owner associated with the Royal Western India Turf Club Limited (RWITC) and Diamond Band Racing Syndicate Pvt Ltd, had won several prestigious derbies since 2006, earning numerous silver and gold-studded trophies.

Surendranath alleged that all the trophies were stolen by his domestic help Rajendra Benudhar Jena (42), a native of Odisha, who had been employed at his residence for the past five years and had been staying there for the last six months.

Police said that on November 23, 2025, Jena informed the complainant that he needed to travel to Kolkata for urgent work. Though he initially contacted Surendranath claiming he was returning, he later became unreachable and failed to report back.

Suspecting foul play, Surendranath checked his collection of trophies and valuables on January 2, only to find that several items were missing. He subsequently approached the Gamdevi police station and lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused on Sunday, and a detailed investigation is currently underway, officials said.
