Kandivali security guard shoots self dead at home

Mumbai, Jan 6: A 45-year-old private security guard allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his licensed revolver at his residence in Kandivali on Monday evening, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Ojha (45), a resident of the Poisar area in Kandivali. He is survived by his wife and two sons aged 14 and 12 years. Ojha was employed as a security guard at a jewellery shop in the MIDC area of Andheri.

According to police, Ojha left for work as usual on Monday morning and returned home around 4 pm. At the time, his wife and younger son were present at home. Without speaking to them, he locked himself inside a room and allegedly shot himself in the head using his licensed revolver.

Family members and neighbours alerted the police, following which a team from Samta Nagar police station rushed to the spot. Ojha was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A forensic team also visited the scene. Police said no suicide note was found from the house, and the reason behind the extreme step remains unclear.

The Samta Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. The family members are said to be in a state of shock, police added.
