Oshiwara Police arrest attempted murder accused after 30 years on the run

Mumbai, Jan 4: The Oshiwara police have arrested a wanted accused who had been absconding for over three decades, tracking him down in Uttar Pradesh after reopening old criminal cases ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation elections.

The accused, identified as H Yadav, was booked in an attempted murder case in Oshiwara in 1994. Following the crime, Yadav fled Mumbai and went into hiding. A non-bailable arrest warrant had been issued against him by the court, but he managed to evade arrest for nearly 30 years.

Senior police officials said that as part of a special drive linked to election preparedness, teams revisited long-pending cases involving absconding accused. During this exercise, investigators managed to obtain Yadav’s phone number, which eventually led them to his location in Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on the lead, a team from Oshiwara police travelled to Uttar Pradesh on New Year’s Eve and successfully arrested the accused. He was subsequently brought back to Mumbai and produced before a local court.

Police said further legal procedures are underway in the case.
