Nagpur, Dec 28: A shocking double murder in Umred town’s Gangapur slum on Saturday afternoon has left the local community in fear. Parvati Shankar Fukat (65) and her daughter Sangita Vansata Rithe (40), both residents of Gangapur, were brutally killed when an intoxicated neighbour attacked them with a wooden stick during a petty argument. The accused, Nitesh Kisan Thakre (31), a resident of the same slum, has been arrested by the police.

According to police, the accused and the victims were neighbours, and Nitesh, who had a history of alcohol abuse, frequently clashed with them. On Saturday around 12:30 pm, a minor dispute outside the victims’ home escalated when Nitesh, under the influence of alcohol, struck Parvati Fukat on the head with a wooden stick. Sangita Rithe intervened to save her mother, but the accused hit her on the head as well. Both mother and daughter succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

The Umred police, led by Inspector Dhanaji Jalk, rushed to the scene upon receiving information. The area was tense following the incident. The bodies were taken into custody and sent for postmortem examination. A case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint by Smita Pankaj Jumde (36).

The accused Nitesh Thakre remains in police custody, with further investigation being carried out under the guidance of Inspector Jalk. The midday killings have sent shockwaves across Umred and the wider Nagpur district, spreading fear among residents.
