Minor girl repeatedly assaulted sexually in Uppinangady; man arrested

Puttur, Dec 21: The Uppinangady police have arrested a man for the alleged repeated sexual assault of a minor girl. The case was registered after the victim's family filed a complaint.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Abdul Gafoor, convinced the parents of the girl, who had relocated from Belagavi for work, that he would teach their daughter beekeeping. The parents subsequently left the girl at Gafoor's residence for approximately two months.

The incident came to light when the girl's parents returned from a visit to their native place on December 19, 2025. The distressed girl reportedly approached her parents crying and disclosed that the accused had been assaulting her since December 2, 2025.

Based on the complaint, the Uppinangady police have registered case number 118/2025 under Sections 115(2), 351(2), and 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The accused has been taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing. Police stated that further legal proceedings will follow.
