Power man dies after bike rams electric pole near Shankaranarayana

Kundapur, Nov 24: A power man attached to the Siddapur Mescom branch, Sachin Kallappa Sankratti, 28, died after his bike lost control and rammed an electric pole near Kalgadde in Shankaranarayana village on the night of November 22.

Sachin, who was working in the Siddapur Kadri section of the Siddapur Mescom branch, had completed his duty on November 22 and later attended a programme with friends. He was on his way to Kundapur to drop his friend Basava Kiran, who was heading to Belagavi, when the accident occurred.

Sachin was travelling alone on his bike, while his friends, Chintamani’s Rahul R Madar and Basava Kiran, were on another bike. He sustained severe head injuries in the accident and was shifted to Kundapur Government Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where the doctors declared him dead.

Sachin had joined the Siddapur Mescom branch in 2022. After completing his three-year training period, he had been made permanent three months ago.

Only son of the family

Sachin hailed from an agricultural family at Balegere in Athani taluk of Belagavi district. He was the youngest of four children and the only son, with three elder sisters. While his sisters are married, Sachin was unmarried.

After the post-mortem at Kundapur Government Hospital, the body was sent to his native place. Mescom officials, including executive engineer Yashavanth from the Kundapur division, assistant executive engineer Guruprasad Bhat from the Shankaranarayana division, and junior engineer Krishna, visited the hospital.

Chintamani’s Rahul R Madar, 25, has lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station.
