Kasargod, Nov 20: A brother-sister duo has won widespread appreciation for their honesty, choosing integrity over temptation despite coming from a family facing severe financial hardship.
Kalkar Unnati’s Babu from Angadimogaru ward under Puthige panchayat recently visited a house near a mosque while walking around the neighbourhood. While speaking to a young woman in the house, he noticed an old purse lying in the courtyard. When he asked whether he could pick it up, she permitted him. Babu brought the purse home and handed it over to his sister Geetha.

While checking the purse, Geetha found its zip broken. Upon opening it, she discovered a gold medal inside. She immediately told her brother to return it to the rightful owner. When Babu took it back, the young woman was overjoyed, saying it was her lost gold medal she had been searching for for months. She also mentioned that she had lost a gold ring along with the medal and asked him to check if it was in the purse.
Babu returned home and informed Geetha. She once again examined the purse, and this time, the ring fell out. Babu promptly took it back to the woman and returned it.
The medal and ring together are estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees in gold. The grateful family gifted some fruits and a small amount of money to the siblings and promised to give them a present when the woman's husband returns from abroad.
The siblings’ act of honesty has earned admiration across the community.
