Mangaluru, Nov 5: The city police displayed remarkable alertness and coordination, successfully saving two lives — a man and his young daughter — who had attempted suicide.
The incident involved Rajesh (35), a resident of Ambika Nagar under Kavoor police station limits, and his four-year-old daughter. The rescue operation was carried out jointly by Panambur and Kavoor police teams.
Rajesh, who was married seven years ago, had been facing marital discord. On Monday, following a quarrel with his wife, he reportedly grew despondent and decided to end his life along with his daughter. He took his daughter to the Tannirbhavi seashore and recorded a video saying, “Let’s both die.” He then shared the video in a relatives’ WhatsApp group.

The distressing video, which showed Rajesh speaking in Tulu as he walked toward the beach, also captured his daughter pleading, “Please, don’t die, Appa.” The video quickly circulated among family members and eventually reached the Panambur police around 7 pm.
Acting swiftly, the Panambur police suspected the incident might have occurred near Panambur Beach and began searching the area but found no trace of the man or the child. They then extended their search to the Tannirbhavi beach, but still, no clue emerged.
Using the help of the cyber crime police, officers traced Rajesh’s mobile number and located him in Shantinagar, Kavoor. The Panambur Police Inspector immediately informed the Kavoor Police Station and dispatched his team to the location.
Panambur police personnel Fakirappa, Sharanappa, and Rakesh reached the identified house but found it locked from the inside. Despite knocking and calling out, there was no response. Eventually, the police had to break open the door, only to find Rajesh preparing to hang himself along with his daughter.
The officers acted promptly, rescuing both individuals and handing them over to the Kavoor police. Rajesh was counselled and later sent home. On Tuesday, both husband and wife were called to the police station, where officials mediated and advised them. No case has been registered in connection with the incident.
The police commissioner appreciated the swift and coordinated efforts of both Panambur and Kavoor police teams in saving the lives of the father and daughter.
