Srinivas University organises FUND EM – 2025: Grant writing workshop empowers young researchers

Mangaluru, Oct 30: Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SIMSRC), Srinivas University, conducted FUND EM – 2025, a one-day grant writing workshop on October 29, at Vaikunta Hall, Hotel Srinivasa. The event aimed to enhance researchers’ and academicians’ skills in preparing and securing research grants.

The workshop was presided over by Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, hon’ble chancellor and president of A Shama Rao Foundation he emphasized that “Vijnana is vishesha jnana — specialized knowledge that drives discovery and progress,” highlighting the importance of nurturing scientific inquiry. Dr Srinivas Rao underscored innovation as the cornerstone of global growth and connectivity.

Chief guest Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor highlighted the growing importance of innovation in today’s interconnected world. He stated, “The world today thrives on innovation. Sharing knowledge and ideas fuels further creativity, connecting people across borders. In this era of global communication, innovation has become essential for both survival and growth.”

Other dignitaries present included Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy, vice-chancellor, Dr Anil Kumar, registrar, Dr Ajay Kumar, development registrar, Srinivas University and Dr Uday Kumar, dean SIMSRC.

Adding an international perspective, Prof Salvatore Di Somma, cardiologist and professor of medicine at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza', Italy, and UCSD School of Medicine, USA, graced the event as the special guest. His insights on global research collaboration and funding strategies enriched the sessions.

Chaired by Dr Edwin Dias, director of research & publications, with Dr Vrindha J Bhat as convener and support from Dr David Rosario, the workshop featured sessions on research grant structures, funding agencies, bio sketch preparation, and mock reviews.

The organizing committee included Dr Suchetha Kumari, Dr Jayshree Bolar, Dr Praveen BM, Dr Naveen Bappalige, Dr Pradeep Shetty, and Dr Praveen Blessington, with reception and registration coordinated by faculty members from various institutes of Srinivas University.

Eminent speakers — Dr Naveen Salins, Dr Keshava Prasad, Dr Vijaya Arun Kumar, Dr Ramu Kharel, and Dr Giles Cattermole — shared their expertise. A panel discussion, 'AI in Grant Writing: To Do or Not to Do?', prompted debate on technology’s evolving role in research.

Organized by a dedicated team of faculty members, FUND EM – 2025 concluded with an interactive Q&A, reaffirming Srinivas University’s commitment to advancing quality research and innovation.
