Media Release

Udupi, Sep 13: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, celebrated Patron’s Day on September 7, marking the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with devotion and joy. The celebration was preceded by a nine-day Novena and special prayer sessions conducted under the guidance of correspondent Fr Denis D’Sa and principal Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza.

The programme began with a prayer song followed by the welcome address, Marian hymns by the students and a floral tribute to Mother Mary. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop Emeritus of Udupi, graced the occasion and spoke on the values that help one become a good human being, particularly gratitude, appreciation of nature and responsibility. He was felicitated on this occasion for his incredible era of spiritual guidance and community service.

As a gesture of appreciation, sponsors who supported the novena by contributing towards refreshments and sweets for the students were felicitated.

In his presidential address, Fr Denis D’Souza, correspondent, elaborated the significance and tradition of Monthi Fest. He described it as a celebration of four important occasions—the birthday of Mother Mary, the harvest feast, the family feast and a day of gratitude. He also stressed the need for the responsible use of resources.

The cultural programme featured colourful dances by the Kindergarten and Higher Primary students along with a skit highlighting the significance of Patron’s Day.

Nathan Anchan and Sonal D’Souza compered the program. Principal Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza presented the welcome note, while Winnifred Mascarenhas delivered the words of appreciation.

Assistant parish priest Fr Leo Praveen, vice principal Rita Quadras, head boy Parth and head girl Brahmi shared the stage with other dignitaries. Members of the school management committee, including Dr Diana, Maxim D’Souza and Harry Nazareth were present on the occasion.
