Tourist booked for reckless driving on Baga beach

Baga, Oct 20: In yet another case of irresponsible tourist behaviour, a domestic visitor has been booked for driving a four-wheeler recklessly along the sea shore of Baga beach, endangering lives and violating local laws.

Police said the incident took place on October 18, before noon, near the lifeguard tower opposite Xavier Shack. The tourist, reportedly driving in a rash and negligent manner, put beachgoers at serious risk, prompting swift action from the Tourist Police Unit.

Officials condemned the act, noting that such reckless behaviour not only endangers the public but also disrupts the tranquillity of Goa’s coastal ecosystem. They added that incidents of tourists disregarding safety and traffic rules — including driving on beaches and overspeeding — have been on the rise.

Locals and police authorities have expressed growing concern over what they describe as a “culture of impunity,” warning that it poses a threat to both public safety and Goa’s image as a peaceful tourist haven.

Authorities have urged visitors to follow local regulations and practice responsible tourism, warning that any violations will attract strict legal action.

The incident serves as a reminder that Goa’s scenic beaches are meant for relaxation, not reckless joyrides — and increased police vigilance is expected in the coming days to curb such dangerous behaviour.
