Mangaluru, Oct 17: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, organised a day’s capacity building programme on “Stress Management” for its teaching faculty in collaboration with COE, CBSE on October 15 in the school auditorium, to promote the mental and emotional well-being of its staff, while equipping them with practical tools to manage the challenges of their dynamic profession.

The day began on a serene note with a prayer, invoking a peaceful and reflective mindset for the sessions ahead. This was followed by the formal inauguration, marked by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the distinguished guests – a symbolic gesture representing the light of knowledge and awareness.

Vice Principal Sr Teena extended a warm and gracious welcome to all gathered, and introduced the resource persons of the day, Ashalatha Soans, principal, Red Camel School and Dr Gururaj Itagi, counsellor, Sharada Group of Educational Institutions. Ashalatha Soans began her session with a comprehensive explanation of “What is Stress?” thoughtfully debunking common myths and misunderstandings surrounding the term.

She explored the various sources of stress specific to educators, such as workload, student behaviour, administrative tasks, and personal responsibilities. She guided the staff through practical strategies to identify early signs of stress, improve time and energy management, and maintain emotional resilience in high-pressure environments.

Her session was highly interactive and relatable, offering actionable techniques to help teachers remain balanced and productive, both professionally and personally.

Dr Gururaj Itagi delved into the psychosomatic impacts of stress and emphasised the importance of nurturing both the body and mind. He introduced participants to mindfulness techniques, emotional awareness practices and tools for achieving a healthy work-life balance. His engaging presentation included real-life examples and simple exercises to promote mental clarity, emotional regulation, and self-care. The session underscored the idea that caring for one's mental health is not a luxury, but a necessity for sustained professional excellence.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by teacher Sujatha Albuquerque, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons for their valuable insights and to the management for organizing a seminar that prioritises staff welfare and growth.

The workshop was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical relevance, interactive approach, and empathetic tone of the sessions. Teachers expressed that the strategies shared were not only useful for the classroom but also applicable in their personal lives.

The entire day’s proceedings were efficiently anchored by teacher Prathiksha, who served as the emcee, ensuring smooth transitions and engagement throughout the event.

This event reflects the School’s ongoing commitment to the holistic development of its staff, ensuring they are not only educators but also empowered individuals capable of managing their well-being with confidence and care.
