Panaji, Oct 17: Goa has emerged as the top performer in Category B of the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI) and state rankings, the Union Ministry of Mines announced. The index evaluates states based on indicators such as auction performance, early mine operationalisation, exploration initiatives, and sustainable mining practices for non-coal minerals.

States were grouped into three categories based on their mineral endowment. In Category A, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat secured the top three positions. In Category B, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam ranked highest, while Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Tripura led in Category C.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed pride in the achievement, stating that it reflects Goa’s consistent emphasis on transparency, sustainability, and ease of doing business in the mining sector. He highlighted the recent transparent auctions of mining blocks, which have facilitated sectoral revival, improved logistics, and enhanced efficiency.

Sawant affirmed the government’s commitment to responsible growth in Goa’s mining industry, aiming to generate value, employment, and long-term prosperity for the state’s residents.
