Margao, Oct 4: In a major breakthrough in the Mungul gang war case, the three main accused — Valley D’Costa, Amogh Naik, and Prakash Karbhar — surrendered before the district police headquarters in Margao on Friday noon.

Speaking to the media, District Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma said the trio, wanted in connection with the gang war, appeared before the police and would be placed under arrest by Maina Curtorim police after completing formalities.

The accused, accompanied by their lawyers, surrendered before DySP Sidhant Shirodkar and were later taken to SP Verma’s office. Following this, Fatorda Police Inspector Nathan Almeida took custody of the trio.

SP Verma informed that the Fatorda police had earlier arrested 25 persons linked to the gang war. “With the arrest of these three, the total number of accused has now risen to 28,” he said.

PI Nathan Almeida said the surrendered accused will be interrogated to determine their involvement in the attack on two occupants of a Baleno car — identified as Rafiq Tashan (24) and Yuvkesh Singh Badaila (20) — who sustained injuries during the incident.

The victims were travelling from Colva to Margao when their vehicle was intercepted by car-borne assailants near Shagun Restaurant, Mungul on the Margao-Colva road. The attackers allegedly fired at the car and assaulted the duo with sharp weapons, leaving them injured.

Among the 25 accused earlier arrested for attempt to murder, police said one of the accused hails from Rajasthan.

The police are continuing investigations to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and identify others involved in the gang rivalry.
