Mangaluru, Sep 15: A fishing trawler that had ventured into the deep sea for fishing suffered an engine failure and was left stranded mid-sea. Miraculously, the trawler drifted with the waves and eventually hit the shore near Seaground, Ullal, saving the lives of 13 fishermen on board.
The boat, Burak Trawler, belongs to Mohammad Ashfaq, a resident of Mukkachery, Ullal. The vessel had set out from the Mangaluru harbour towards Kerala for deep-sea fishing on Sunday night. However, while at sea, its engine failed, leaving it immobile.

During the night, the fishermen on board were unable to alert nearby boats and remained stranded, facing a life-threatening situation. Fortunately, carried by the sea waves, the trawler drifted towards the coast and collided with the Seaground shoreline in the early hours of Monday.
While all 13 fishermen escaped unhurt, the incident has caused losses running into lakhs of rupees for the boat owner. Ullal police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
