Panaji, Sep 11: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has approved a project worth Rs 36.2 crore for widening a 3.1-km stretch of major roads in Sanquelim, the constituency represented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The project forms part of the ‘Clean Sanquelim, Beautiful Sanquelim Sankalp’ initiative, aimed at the town’s comprehensive redevelopment.
The road-widening work will cover three stretches — from the Community Health Centre (CHC) to Supache Pud (2.6 km), CHC to Siya fuel pump (400 m), and the bus stand to the Shivaji Maharaj statue (150 m). Roads will be expanded to 18 metres and converted into four-lane thoroughfares. The plan also includes asphalting, beautification, and installation of new electrical infrastructure.

GSIDC officials said the project carries a five-year defect liability clause, making contractors responsible for quality and timely completion. They will also coordinate with utility service providers to shift lines and clear encroachments, with no provision for extra compensation in case of delays.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also heads GSIDC, stated that the redevelopment is part of a long-term vision to systematically transform Sanquelim into a modern town. “Over the next four to five years, works worth nearly Rs 100 crore will be taken up in phases to upgrade Sanquelim’s infrastructure,” Sawant said.
