Islamabad, Aug 21: Pakistan’s former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has been shifted back to Adiala Jail after undergoing a detailed medical examination at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, according to jail sources.
The 73-year-old former premier was taken to the hospital around midnight on Thursday under tight security following a direction from Pakistan’s Supreme Court to move him to a specialised medical facility within 48 hours for examination and treatment.

A six-member team of specialist doctors examined Khan at the hospital. The assessment followed concerns over fluctuating blood pressure, anxiety, palpitations and headaches, along with continuing concerns related to an earlier condition affecting his right eye.
After the examination, doctors concluded that Khan did not require hospitalisation at this stage and could continue to remain in custody. He was subsequently escorted back to Adiala Jail and shifted to his cell.
The hospital visit was carried out amid heavy security arrangements. Senior police officials, including the Islamabad Inspector General, were involved in reviewing security measures at the facility ahead of Khan’s arrival.
The Supreme Court’s direction came amid continuing concerns over Khan’s health and demands from his party for access to specialised medical care. His examination was conducted to determine whether further treatment or hospital admission was required.
Khan has remained in and out of custody in connection with several cases since his arrest in August 2023. His imprisonment has become a major political issue in Pakistan, with the repeatedly demanding his release and alleging that the cases against him are politically motivated.
