Mangaluru: SJEC hosts inauguration of first year BE classes for batch of 2025-26

Mangaluru, Sep 9: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor hosted the inaugural function of first year BE classes for the batch of 2025-26 on Tuesday September 9 in Kalam Auditorium. The chief guest of the programme was Kalyan Ram Bhimavaram, co-founder & CEO, Indxo AI.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by all the first-year students. The programme started with an invocation by the college choir followed by welcoming the gathering by the first-year coordinator, Dr Rajesh K, associate professor, department of physics. The first BE 2025-26 batch was inaugurated by lighting the lamp.

The department flags were unveiled by the heads of various departments along with the student representative of the respective departments.

Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC addressed the students and highlighted the importance of the institution to shape the student to become better citizens as well as responsible engineers. He encouraged the students to participate in various experiences during the 4 year journey. He also expressed the joy regarding the brand value of the Institution across the state as well as the globe.

PU toppers were honoured florally by the chief guest on this occasion.

Kalyan Ram Bhimavaram, chief guest of the programme inspired the students through his life experience about how to be successful in life. He spoke about the huge opportunities lined up in front of the current generation. He highlighted the role of discipline in life and applauded SJEC for being the role model in maintaining that discipline. He wished students best of luck for the 4 - year journey during the BE course.

The chief guest addressed the first year BE students after the formal inaugural programme and gave them the broader perspective of the opportunities ahead of them in the AI Era.

Dr Rio D’Souza offered a memento as token of gratitude to the chief guest.

President of the programme, Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, director-SJEC, addressed the gathering and spoke about the role of technology and human values. He spoke about the motto of the college - Service & Excellence. He said technology is a tool but human values tell how to use these tools. He addressed the importance of right attitude, discipline and respect to each other.

Dr Prathima, assistant professor, department of chemistry & the convenor of the programme delivered the vote of thanks.

The programme witnessed the participation of vice principal, Dr Purushottam Chippar, various deans, HODs, co-convenor, Lauline D’Souza and faculty members.

Rachana Crasta, assistant professor, department of mathematics, compered the inaugural programme. The programme was concluded with the college anthem.
