Lisbon, Sep 5: The shadow of India’s gang wars has reached European shores with Randeep Malik, a notorious gangster linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claiming responsibility for a firing in Lisbon’s Odivelas suburb targeting businessman Romi King and the rival Prince gang.
Romi, who has been living in Portugal since 2013, said he had been receiving threat calls demanding Rs 3 crore. “On August 25, I was warned to pay or face death. I ignored it thinking it was a prank. But on September 2, around 1:30 am, our office was attacked,” he told NDTV.
Though he was not present, Romi lodged a police complaint. He added that the calls and threats intensified after the incident, with attempts being made to malign his name online.
Denying any links with Bishnoi’s syndicate, he said, “I have never met them. They are calling me a drug smuggler, but no case is registered against me either here or in India. Prince is my adopted son and business partner. I am being defamed and I am scared.”
Malik, currently in the United States, is one of India’s most wanted gangsters and is pursued by the NIA and Delhi Police for multiple cases, including the Chandigarh club blasts and shootings in Canada.
In a social media post, Malik not only accepted responsibility for the Lisbon attack but also released a video of the firing.
The incident is being described as the first major gang war between Indians on foreign soil, raising alarm in both Portugal and India.
