Kundapur, Aug 8: In connection with a cattle theft incident, the Gangolli police team on August 7 arrested the prime accused, Mohammed Ansar (32), at Kulur in Mangaluru.
The case relates to an incident on July 31, when a cow lying by the roadside near Bombay Bazaar in Mail Gangolli was forcibly loaded into a car and taken away. Following the incident, a special team was formed by Gangolli police to trace the accused.
On August 7, police arrested Mohammed Ansar along with the car used in the crime at Kulur. He was later produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. The accused has 13 cases registered against him in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts. Police are on the lookout for three more accused involved in this cattle theft.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of SP Hariram Shankar and additional SP Sudhakar Naik, with Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Jayaram Gowda directing the efforts. Gangolli sub-inspectors Pavan Nayak and Basavaraj Kanashetty, along with staff members Krishna Devadiga, Chetan, Shantharam Shetty, Suresh, Sachin Shetty, Raju, Sandeep Kurani, Prasanna, Raghavendra Poojary, Malappa Desai, and Chidananda, took part in the operation.
SP Hariram Shankar congratulated the team for swiftly apprehending the accused.
It may be recalled that on August 5, near Hejmady toll gate, while pursuing the accused in this and another cattle theft case, the suspects had allegedly attempted to run over the Gangolli police with their car.
