Mangaluru: KNS hosts 57th elocution competition at Don Bosco Hall

Mangaluru, Aug 4: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) held its 57th Konkani elocution competition for children and adults on Sunday, August 3, as part of its annual events at Don Bosco Hall. 

The event began with the KNS anthem. Floyd D'Mello Cascia, vice president of KNS, delivered an encouraging message and welcomed the judges, participants, and audience. 

The competition was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony by KNS vice president Floyd D'Mello, assistant secretary Jerome Moras, and treasurer Ivan D’Silva. Judges and competition convenors Edward Coelho and Raymond D’Cunha were also present on the dais. 

Renowned Konkani poets Marcel D'Souza (Machha Milar), Vincent Mendonca, Felcy Lobo, and Francis D'Cunha served as the esteemed judges for the competition. 

A total of 57 participants across six categories showcased their talents in this year's elocution competition. 

The event received valuable support from KNS manager Gerald Concessao. Tabulation was handled by treasurer Ivan D'Silva. Overall coordination was managed by the KNS Derebail and Cathedral units, and KNS managing committee members. 

Leera Mascarenhas compered the programme, supported by Dora D'Cunha, Pramila Furtado, and Deon Joshwin Pinto. Raymond D’Cunha introduced the judges, treasurer Ivan D'Silva delivered the vote of thanks, and Edward Coelho announced the results. 

Results of elocution competition: 

5 to 10 years category (Girls):

- First Place: Angel Megan Cutinha, Hospet

- Second Place: Valonia D’Souza, Manjeshwar

- Third Place: Nishel Pearl Monteiro, Bondel 

5 to 10 years category (Boys):

- First Place: Sushan Jose, Bondel

- Second Place: Ranon Sion D’Costa, Angelore

- Third Place: Neil Xavier Fernandes, Derebail 

10 to 16 years category (Girls):

- First Place: Eva Andria D’Souza, Mulky

- Second Place: Sagarika Lobo, Taccode and Sienna D’Souza, Fajir

- Third Place: Sherlyn Lorine D’Souza, Paldane 

10 to 16 years category (Boys):

- First Place: Denith Rodrigues, Bondel

- Second Place: Ujwal Gonsalves, Kemmannu

- Third Place: Elrin Rishak D’Souza, Cascia 

16 to 35 years Category (Mixed):

- First Place: Priyanka Shibani Menezes, Balkunje

- Second Place: Elvin D’Sa, Shirthady

- Third Place: Anvilla Neora D’Souza, Bondel 

Above 35 years category:

- First Place: Laveena Pinto, Bendur

- Second Place: Olinda Gonsalves, Bela

- Third Place: Premi Lobo, Milagres and Charles Fernandes, Paldane
