Chennai, Jul 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening for a two-day visit aimed at boosting infrastructure and development in the state. Landing at Tuticorin Airport at 7:50 p.m. following his Maldives tour, he was welcomed by Governor R.N. Ravi, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, and Union Ministers L. Murugan and Ram Mohan Naidu.
Shortly after arrival, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new terminal building at Tuticorin Airport, built at a cost of Rs 452 crore. He also laid foundation stones and launched multiple infrastructure and energy projects worth Rs 4,900 crore.

Key announcements and inaugurations included:
• Tuticorin infrastructure projects worth Rs 550 crore
• Power transmission and distribution upgrades for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (Units 3 & 4)
• Electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakkanur railway line
• Doubling of railway sections: Aralvaimozhi–Nagercoil, Nellai–Melapalayam, and Nagercoil City–Kanyakumari
• A four-lane road project on the Sethiyathoppu–Cholapuram section
• Inauguration of the third northern cargo terminal at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, worth Rs 285 crore
• Railway projects totalling Rs 1,030 crore
The initiatives are part of a broader effort to enhance transport connectivity, energy capacity, and logistics infrastructure in southern Tamil Nadu.
On Sunday, the Prime Minister will attend the millennium celebration of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I’s maritime expedition at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, adding a cultural dimension to his development-focused visit.
