Bantwal, Jul 21: A leopard entered the premises of a farmer's house in Babathota, Moodanadugodu village of Bantwal taluk and attempted to attack the dogs. However, the dogs barked loudly and the leopard fled, as revealed by CCTV footage.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on July 17 at the residence of Prakash Poojary. Though the leopard was captured on CCTV, the monitor was not functioning at the time, and the presence of the leopard came to light only on Sunday after the monitor was repaired.

At the time of the leopard’s visit, two dogs in the house began barking loudly as if someone had approached. Prakash attempted to check outside, but family members stopped him out of fear. The leopard’s attempt to pounce on the dogs and its sudden flight were captured by the CCTV, but the footage couldn't be viewed until later due to the faulty monitor.

Initially, the family suspected someone had tried to intrude but didn’t inform anyone. After getting the monitor repaired, they discovered the truth upon reviewing the footage. One of the dogs had sustained a minor injury, which they initially assumed was from a scuffle between the dogs themselves.

Prakash Poojary said that although the forest department was informed about the leopard’s presence, they only suggested bursting crackers to drive it away.

This is too much. Residential areas and Wild animals are encroaching in search of food. People's lives could be in danger. I heard from my grandfather and some old people that there were some Cheetahs/Leopards occasionally used to come and attack dogs in the nighttime. Omzoor, Merla Padav, also, Hyenas)
