Mangaluru, July 19: Following continuous heavy rainfall across the coastal region, a holiday has been declared for anganwadis, primary, high schools and pre-university colleges on Saturday, July 19 in Mangaluru taluk. Holiday has been declared for anganwadis, primary and high schools in Ullal and Bantwal taluks.

The decision comes under a oranage alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of moderately heavy rainfall over Dakshina Kannada district in the next 24 hours.

Several parts of Dakshina Kannada witnessed intense rainfall throughout the day on Friday, overnight and early morning on Saturday, disrupting normal life.

Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned aginst venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints.
