Mangaluru, Jun 26: The transgender community continues to be one of the most marginalized groups in society, often subjected to neglect and repeated humiliation. However, Ani Mangaluru, a determined transgender woman, has transformed discrimination into a driving force for success. Today, she proudly owns and manages four auto-rickshaws in Mangaluru.
Originally from Raichur, Ani moved to Mangaluru to pursue her education. She was enrolled in the second semester of a BA-BEd course but decided to discontinue her studies after realizing the difficulties she would face in securing a job as a transgender individual, regardless of her educational qualifications.

Ani was once dependent on auto-rickshaws for her daily commute. One day, after being refused a ride home by several drivers, she was left humiliated. That moment became a turning point in her life. Rather than giving in to despair, she took it as a challenge.
With the help of a loan, Ani purchased four auto-rickshaws, which she now rents out in Deralakatte. This venture has provided her with a steady source of income and a sense of independence.
In a touching gesture of compassion and solidarity, Ani has decided to offer free rides in her autos to pregnant women and transgender individuals, ensuring they never have to experience the kind of humiliation she once did.
Ani’s determination does not stop there. She has acted in a movie, works as a gym trainer, and owns a two-wheeler. Her journey stands as a source of inspiration for many within the transgender community.
"Ani has shown what true determination looks like. She is a role model for us all," says her friend Reshma.
