Kadaba, Jun 11: In a shocking incident, a man who was critically injured after being set on fire by his own younger brother has succumbed to his injuries. The victim, Hanumappa (42), died at the hospital on Monday, following the brutal attack that took place near the Kodimbala railway track in the Mangaluru-Bengaluru rail section on June 8.

According to reports, the accused, Ningappa (21), had poured petrol mixed with diesel on his elder brother and set him ablaze in an alleged attempt to kill him. Initially, the case was registered under attempt to murder. However, following Hanumappa’s death during treatment, the police have now converted the case into a murder charge.

On Monday, Mangaluru railway police took the accused to the crime scene for a spot inspection. Mangaluru division railway police inspector Jayanand, ASI Madhu Chandra, forensic experts, and railway police personnel have begun a detailed investigation.

Sources indicate that both brothers had boarded a train from Puttur and disembarked at Kodimbala railway station around noon. Aware of the presence of nearby houses, Ningappa reportedly walked nearly a kilometre along the railway track to a more secluded area in Koriyaar, where he carried out the planned attack using a petrol-diesel mixture.

According to the accused's statement to Kadaba police, his brother had a severe alcohol addiction. Fourteen years ago, his wife had left him due to his abusive behaviour. Recently, in a drunken state, he even attempted to attack their mother with a stone. Ningappa also claimed that Hanumappa had created a scene with him earlier that day. Tired of years of harassment and violence, he said he decided to kill his brother.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

Govt should keep one ward reserved in govt hospital to treat drunkard people. Drunkards donot know what they are doing and harase wife mother father and children at the end they loose their life and put their caretakers and dependents to jail. I know minors killed their fathers and went to jail. Either they end up their life in their dependents hands or liver decease and end up in hospital. Poor wives and children take care of them instead throwing them in the street. I have no pity towards these drunkards.
