Mangaluru, Jun 10: MLC Ivan D’Souza has alleged that senior BJP leaders are working to undermine the moral integrity of the police department in Dakshina Kannada district.
Addressing a press conference at the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Office on Tuesday, June 10, he said, “Several BJP leaders, including the leader of the opposition and the state BJP president, visited the district on Monday and spoke to police officers in a threatening manner. Instead of allowing police to function according to the law, they issued veiled threats, which is unacceptable. Whether the ruling party is BJP or Congress, the police department must be allowed to perform its duties. The BJP’s complaints only arise when actions are not in their favour, which is baseless.”

“If the police act unlawfully, there are mechanisms in place – including the government, legal system, and the judiciary – to address it. But BJP leaders criticize police for inaction, and when police take action, they object again. What exactly is the BJP's intention? Do they want the district to remain in constant unrest? Are they against development? If the police have done anything wrong or filed false cases against anyone, let them reveal the details,” he challenged.
Ivan D’Souza also demanded that the state government take strict action against BJP leaders who attempt to derail the functioning of the police department.
Commenting on the NIA probe into the recent murder cases, he asked, “Why is only the murder of Suhas Shetty being handed over to the NIA? Why not show the same interest in referring all the other murder cases that have taken place since the killing of Praveen Nettaru? What kind of justice is this discrimination?”
Congress leaders Nagendra Kumar, Amrith Kadri, Suhan Alva, Dinesh Muloor, Bhaskar Rao, Prem Ballalbaugh, James Shivbagh, Satish Pengal, and Manuraj were present at the press meet.
