Panaji, May 30: In a landmark announcement, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday declared the state as 100 per cent literate under the ULLAS Bharat Literacy Programme, marking a significant milestone in Goa’s educational journey.

Addressing the media after the 39th Goa Statehood Day celebration held at Kala Academy in Panaji, Sawant expressed pride in Goa’s achievement and paid tribute to the state's rich cultural legacy.

“On the occasion of the 39th Goa Statehood Day, I am proud to declare Goa as a Fully Literate State under the ULLAS Bharat Literacy Programme,” he said.

Sawant credited the success to the collective efforts of the government and education sector, especially the effective implementation of reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Reflecting on the state’s evolution, the Chief Minister said, “From liberation in 1961 to Statehood in 1987, Goa’s journey has been one of resilience and pride. We honour Goa’s heritage and celebrate its identity as Parshuram Bhoomi – a land of courage, culture, and progress.”

He further highlighted that the government is also focusing on enhancing the Happiness Index of citizens, aligning with its vision for holistic development.

The declaration marks Goa as a front-runner in educational progress and sets an example for other states under the nationwide literacy mission.
