Mangaluru, May 19: An attempted retaliatory attack on one of the accused in the Suhas Shetty murder case inside the Mangaluru jail was foiled, thanks to timely intelligence inputs received by the police.
According to sources, intelligence agencies had earlier alerted Mangaluru police about the possibility of a revenge attack on the murder accused while in custody. Following this, the police had remained on high alert, and most of the accused had already been shifted to different prisons across the state, including Mysuru, Dharwad, and Belagavi.
However, with police custody of accused Chotte Naushad ending Monday, May 19, he was brought back to Mangaluru to be produced before the court. After court formalities, police were preparing to shift him to Mysuru jail.
It was during this transition process that Naushad reportedly requested to meet another inmate inside the Mangaluru jail. While being escorted for the meeting, unidentified individuals within the jail attempted an attack on Naushad by hurling stones and objects at him.
Sources suggest that the assault attempt was part of a broader plan of retaliation in connection with the murder of Suhas Shetty. Fortunately, the police presence and swift action averted any serious harm.
So far, 11 individuals have been arrested in connection with Suhas Shetty’s murder, and all have been shifted to separate prisons as a precautionary measure. Investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures have been reinforced in the Mangaluru jail.
