Goa transport dept warns motorists against fake e-challan links

Panaji, Oct 31: The Directorate of Transport has cautioned motorists against fraudulent websites and fake payment links while checking or paying traffic e-challans, urging them to use only authorised government portals and applications.

In a public notice issued on Friday, the department warned about online financial frauds involving phishing messages and fake links impersonating government services. Motorists have been advised not to click on suspicious links received through SMS, WhatsApp or other platforms.

The Directorate of Transport and Goa Police issue electronic challans across the state for traffic violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The department has identified three authorised platforms for checking and paying e-challans: the national portal echallan.parivahan.nic.in, the Goa-specific portal echallan.goatransport.gov.in and the state government portal gova.goa.gov.in.

Motorists have been advised to access these websites independently rather than through links received in messages. They have also been cautioned against sharing personal or banking details on unverified portals.

For assistance, motorists can contact the national e-challan helpline at 0120-4925505 or email helpdesk-echallan\@gov.in. Separate helplines have also been designated for North Goa and South Goa.

The department has additionally provided an official WhatsApp broadcast service to keep motorists informed about Goa e-challan updates.
