Kundapur, May 15: In a tragic incident in Thekkatte, three members of a single family allegedly attempted suicide early Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of a father and son, while the mother remains in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Madhava Devadiga (56), an employee at Ankadakatte petrol bunk, and his son Prasad Devadiga (22). Tara Devadiga, the wife of Madhava, is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be in a serious condition.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the family members reportedly jumped into a well near their house in an alleged suicide attempt. Local residents were alerted by Tara Devadiga’s cries for help and were able to rescue her. She was immediately rushed to Koteshwar hospital with the assistance of an ambulance.
The fire department from Kundapur conducted a recovery operation and retrieved the bodies of the deceased from the well. A case has been registered at the Kota police station.
Initial suspicions suggest that the family may have resorted to the extreme step due to financial distress and mounting debts. It is believed that Tara jumped into the well after learning that her husband and son had already taken the plunge. The possibility that fear of social shame drove the family to this desperate act is also being investigated.
