Bengaluru, May 1: A horrifying double murder has shocked Bidar district, where a couple was brutally hacked to death in front of their three-year-old child over the husband’s alleged illicit affair and a controversial social media post. The chilling incident was reported from Jafarawadi village in Basavakalyan taluk, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Raju Kolasure and his 24-year-old wife, Saarika Kolasure. The crime, which took place on Tuesday, was reportedly executed by relatives of the woman with whom Raju had an alleged affair. Two accused, identified as Dattatreya and Tukaram Manthala, have surrendered to the police.

According to investigators, Raju had been involved in a relationship with a young woman from the same village. Matters escalated after he allegedly posted a photograph of the two on social media. Facing community backlash, Raju moved with his wife and child to Mumbai.

However, police said the accused plotted to lure him back. “They called Raju to the village on the pretext of a compromise meeting. His wife and son accompanied him,” a senior police officer said. The meeting was arranged on the outskirts of the village, but it turned into a deadly ambush.

“As soon as the meeting began, the accused attacked Raju and Saarika with sharp weapons, slitting their throats. The murder happened in full view of their toddler, who was left crying beside the bodies. It was a heart-wrenching scene,” the officer added.

Adding to the tragedy, preliminary investigation revealed that Saarika was pregnant at the time of her death.

After committing the crime, Dattatreya and Tukaram reportedly close relatives of the woman involved with Raju walked into the police station and surrendered. The police have taken them into custody and further investigation is underway.

This is the second such brutal case linked to extramarital affairs in Karnataka in recent weeks. In March 2025, Bengaluru police uncovered a case where 37-year-old real estate agent Loknath Singh was allegedly murdered by his wife and mother-in-law. He was drugged, taken to an isolated location, and had his throat slit, following alleged multiple affairs and illegal dealings.

In both incidents, the brutality and personal betrayals involved have drawn strong public outrage, with growing calls for deeper scrutiny of crimes driven by personal enmity and relationships.
