Bengaluru, Feb 2: Former BJP chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has no moral right to speak about Congress government’s collapse after Lok Sabha polls as he was equally responsible in the ruling party’s massive victory of winning 135 out of 224 seats, Industries Minister M B Patil said on Friday.

Speaking to media persons at his residence in Bengaluru, the minister reminded Bommai that the failure of his BJP government and corruption charges were mainly responsible for the people trouncing BJP.

“All of us felt happy that someone who is smart and intelligent has been chosen as chief minister to succeed B S Yediyurappa. But Bommai was unable to live up to the expectations of the people as they were fed up with his administration,’’ Patil said.

Answering questions on the statements of the Congress MP D K Suresh, who is the brother of KPCC Chief and Deputy Chief Minister, regarding the injustice in devolution of funds by the Centre and the northern States being favoured at the cost of the South in the grant of funds by the Centre and the feeling that southern states may be forced to separate from the country, Patil said there was no need to wrongly interpret Suresh’s statement.

“All that the MP said is the feeling that southern states are being neglected and their contribution in revenue mobilisation and development are not being rewarded. It is for the BJP, which has been ruling in Delhi for 10 years to set things right,’’ he said.

The minister claimed that the Congress party would majority of the Lok Sabha seats in the State.
