Mangaluru, Sep 2: Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association led by its president Azeez Parthipady raised awareness among bus drivers and conductors on the safety of passengers here at Nanthoor on Saturday September 2.

This action came after a bus conductor slipped from the bus footboard at Nanthoor leading to his death.

Following the conductor’s death, several questions were raised over the safety of passengers in private buses.

Earlier in the week, the police commissioner took strict action against buses and booked 163 cases against footboard travel and 24 cases based on the public complaint.

The president and office bearers of the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association took conductors of private buses to task who were not using ticket machines to issue tickets. They even demanded the drivers and conductors to respect passengers, not to travel on footboard and also maintain dress code. They even checked on shrill horns, loud music system, use of Chalo card, and uniform. They also advised not to halt the buses in places other than bus stands.

The Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association further said they will conduct such drives at every junction on a continuous basis to create awareness.

General secretary Ramachandra Pilar and other office bearers was present.

Nothing will change regarding city buses in Mangalore or Udupi. Since 30 yrs i have been observing . Still rash driving ,loud horns, continuous honking, over-speeding no proper uniform, dangerous metal projecting near seats , not issuing tickets, not 40% full 100 % . ANY GOVERNMENT COME -GO AFTER SOME DAYS OBSERVE NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL. AND IF THERE ARE CHANGES THANK THIS GOVERNMENT .

This is only a few days drama, just to show some concern about passengers safety. After one month they will be back to their old habits. Why are tickets not issued? Why do buses stop anywhere or everywhere to get passengers? First ban the private bus lobby and please do have government city buses, passengers will be safe.
