I assume she might have not been represented by proper lawyer who should have intimated the case and its seriousness. Lots of small and poor people get entangled into legal problem and lose track of court and its formality because the court takes ages to decide on the case . Certain petty cases must be decided as soon as possible to reduce the burden on the court as well as the perpetrators and above all victims of the case.
