Mangaluru, Jun 10: In a definite step towards making Mangaluru a more hygienic city, the e-toilets in Mangaluru City introduced by the City Corporation within the city limits have not been effectively used.

The e-toilets were started during the tenure of Kavitha Sanil as Mayor. The e-toilets, which were donated by HPCL, were then inaugurated by former MLA J R Lobo.

The city has been facing lack of public toilets for many years. Defecating and urinating in the open not only spreads bad odour but also adversely affects the health of the citizens and the beauty of the city. People who have migrated to Mangaluru from different cities are desperately in search of toilets to relieve themselves.

It is said that there are 11 e-toilets in the city. Each of these toilets was said to have 300-liter water tanks.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, former mayor Kavitha Sanil said, "As many as five e-toilets have been set up in the city. The city corporation has failed to maintain them. So the people are not using these toilets."

Activist Hanumanth Kamath said, "Our representatives are not bothered about maintaining facilities at these public toilets. After providing for the facility, they need to maintain it properly. Onus is on elected representatives to take up the responsibility of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in these toilets."

Assistant engineer of Mangaluru City Corporation Shabarinath Rai said, "It has come to our notice. We have asked the present contractor to do the needful.”

Speaking to daijiworld.com, Mangaluru City Corporation chief whip Premanand Shetty said, "We will bring this issue to the notice of the present administration. Due to lack of maintenance, people are not using the toilets. This problem will be sorted out and resolved as soon as possible."

Members of the public in the city say they do not use the e-toilets as the city corporation authorities have failed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

If public need such toilets to relieve themselves from the nature's call, its the duty of the users, by keeping it clean after using it. People never bother to keep it clean urinate wherever they want and defecate and come out. When toilets are misused by the public, who can go and clean that dirty mess ???? Yuckkk 🤑🤑🤑😝😝😝 Cleaners also human beings. In conclusion, duty binds to the user in maintaining the toilets along with the Muncipality for the time to time supervision and refilling the tanks as and when gets over. Same scenes are seen in other places viz railway toilets/hotels/school/colleges....Users never keep it clean evenafter availability of plenty of water. Such places appoint a person and charge 20/- for every user. Public needs every facility. Basic cleanliness/moral values, shoukd be taught at home/school/colleges

these toilets were never meant for public use... inflate the bill three times and give 40% of it to the approving authorities and walk away with 60%....

These were introduced by Congress, what are you even talking about?. Its common for rival parties to ditch other party works and waste money. This is the only reason why our country is developing at such a slow rate.

Teach Toilet Cleanliness and Manners to Children at a very young age.... in Indian culture toilet is the least important when it comes to priority but when it comes to Japan Toilet is the most important and cleanest place.... If toilet is clean then rest of cleanliness automatically comes along..... Indian toilets are generally dim lit places with stick all around

Whichever Congress had built/ introduced, bjp's have abandoned in their tenure. Indira canteen abandoned, kadri musical fountains abandoned, e-toilets abandoned. bjp's have newly introduced a fountain in Kadri park (40% corrupt) sometimes working, sometimes not working. advertisements & propagandas only.

Tell this to Nalin kumar kateel. He is raising big big things . Now he want private buses to privide free service for women . MCC is another big culprit, with filling in SC ST workers, they only sit idle and speak to complainants based on their political affiliance. They are like Ony BJP favors actions will be taken care of.
