Jantar Mantar protest will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns: CJP

New Delhi, Jul 24: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday expressed relief after activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike, but asserted that the party's peaceful agitation at Delhi's Jantar Mantar would continue until union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

In a post on X, Dipke thanked Wangchuk for what he described as his ‘extraordinary courage and sacrifice’ during the indefinite fast.

"We are relieved and grateful that Sonam sir has ended his hunger strike after 26 days. Thank you, sir, for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. By putting your own life on the line, you awakened the conscience of an entire nation. Your life is far too precious to this country," Dipke wrote.

However, he clarified that Wangchuk's decision to end the fast would not bring the movement to a close.

"The Cockroach Janta Party's peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns," he said.

The CJP's agitation intensified on July 20 when its 'Sansad Chalo' march towards Parliament ended in clashes with Delhi Police after protesters allegedly attempted to breach security barricades. Since then, demonstrators have continued their sit-in at Jantar Mantar demanding Pradhan's resignation.

Authorities have heightened security in central Delhi, including temporarily suspending mobile internet services and ordering the early closure of commercial establishments in Connaught Place, amid concerns over possible escalation of protests.

    This obsession with Gen-Z is ludicrous. They are highly leveraged lot who have borrowed through the nose and cannot pay back. No Gen-Z took NEET exam this year unless excuse for life is NEET and NEET only. NTA is incompetent no doubt. But Dharmendra Pradhan resignation does not solve anything. You can have another stamp at the top and the entire setup is unchanged, what do you achieve or gain? People are seriously underestimating the Babu power who derive power from permanence. Ask for reform of NTA; and see how many people will come out against it. Politicians across political spectrum will be dead silent because each one of them is running a college and lucrative biz is medical college. Let us not get carried away from the wangchuk and tipke. They are not helping anyone within the borders and have no intent either.

    The Education Minister should resign. This incident should serve as a lesson for the current government and for future governments. It is hypocritical for the government to criticize the protest only after it led to a lathi charge, when the protesters had reportedly been demonstrating for around 20 days without receiving adequate attention. Governments elected by the people have a responsibility to respond to public concerns and cannot afford to be negligent in matters that affect citizens. Accountability is essential in a democracy. The Prime Minister should be willing to take questions from the press on a regular basis. It has been many years since we have seen frequent open press conferences. The media also has an important responsibility. Instead of focusing primarily on divisive debates or repeatedly revisiting historical political figures, national media should prioritize asking tough questions about current governance, public policy, and accountability. A free and independent press plays a vital role in ensuring transparency. If ministers fail in their responsibilities, they should be held accountable. Public office comes with public responsibility, and every government—present and future—should remember that it is ultimately accountable to the people.

    Students' agitation is fully supported by the core of my heart. However, you should also understand that every action has consequences. If anyone intentionally creates chaos, provokes people to violence, or destroys public assets, they must be ready to face the legal consequences. No one has the right to damage our country's property or undermine its spirit in the name of protest.😡😡😡😡😡

    Sunilla Shetty, It is obvious you are only watching a section of the mainstream media that functions as a government mouthpiece and hides its draconian actions. Fortunately, social media doesn't suppress the truth. Video evidence clearly shows a truck full of stones being brought inside Jantar Mantar, an absolute logistical impossibility for protesting students to pull off. The police were seen throwing those very stones at the students, yet the media falsely blamed the victims. Footage also caught the police actively smashing vehicles on the street so they could pin the property destruction entirely on the students. Furthermore, unidentified rowdies in civil dress, along with 'police' officers completely lacking nameplates, were caught on camera beating students with nail-studded sticks. Seeing is believing, and I highly suggest you watch ground-level social media footage to wake up to the actual reality.

    My shout out to the Gen Z, please listen, once the dust settles, the security agencies will not let the rioters and thugs go unpunished. Their system never forgets. With facial recognition technology and biometric forensics, your future and career will be lost. Not every one of you is fortunate enough to receive foreign funding through NGOs, and not every provocateur who incited you online will come to your rescue. Moreover, the back-and-forth legal process will drain you emotionally, financially, and professionally. We have experienced this in our ''all minority CAA protest' in Mangalore. Cases is still going on in court.

    The end of Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike is a relief. Students must never become victims of political games they deserve honesty, accountability and respect. If leadership has failed them those responsible must be held accountable. No office or position is more important than the lives and future of students.
