Congress to field Padmaraj from Mangaluru South in upcoming elections?

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Mar 25: As the state is gearing up for the legislative assembly elections, the leaders of political parties are busy in choosing the candidates to win the majority of constituencies.

In Dakshina Kannada, the Mangaluru South constituency is one of the prominent constituencies and it is the cynosure for all the political parties. According to sources, the BJP has no plans to change the candidate in Mangaluru South. Vedavyas Kamath is likely to continue as the BJP candidate from Mangaluru South. However, the party is yet to reveal the list of candidates.

There is tough competition in the Congress for tickets. Many aspirants are making attempts to obtain B-Form from the party. It is also said that the aspirants are lobbying to obtain B-Form from the party. Though there are many aspirants for the Mangaluru South constituency, former MLA J R Lobo and Ivan D'Souza are the prominent aspirants for the tickets to contest from Mangaluru South.

According to sources, the grand old party is planning to win the majority of seats in the district and grab the power from the BJP to end polarisation politics. Hence, most of the party leaders are planning to field advocate Padmaraj R.

Padmaraj R hails from the Billava community. Moreover, he has a wide network in the district and support from youth because of his social work. His Gurubelandingalu Trust has reached the needy. He has a good image in the society. Even in his community, there is an expectation to field Padmaraj.

Votes of Christians, Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, Billawas and Bunts are the deciding factor in the Mangaluru South constituency. The Congress party must woo the Hindu voters in big numbers to win the constituency. According to political experts, to end BJP's polarisation politics, the Congress needs to field a Hindu candidate in Mangaluru South.

Moreover, the Aam Aadmi Party (APP) has launched an aggressive campaign to win the Mangaluru South constituency. AAP’s Santhosh Kamath will fight the elections from Mangaluru South.

It may be recalled, J R Lobo had won the election by defeating N Yogish Bhat in 2013. Totally, the people are expecting change in the constituency.

Padmaraj maybe is a new face same like Vedavyas Kamath like last time. Chances of his win are more because Catholic votes are very less this time as most of the youngsters have migrated from here and other communities will consider a Hindu candidate than a GSB candidate.

Congress is party of the past, now only in photo frames. Ivan Dsouza is useless. JR Lobo is a man who is good, but can't win after what Rahul Gandhi speaks publicly. Vedavyas kamath has done some good work but can't garner votes in individual capacity. Only Modi factor gets the BJP to win. My suggestion everytime DVK should not be MLA . He should be large hearted to allow another BJP karyakartha to become MLA this time. People are tired of old faces. Morefully BJP wins only because of Modi factor. Local leaders are no winning factor for BJP. Aap is good for nothing, most corrupt anti national party controlled by American CIA.

Vedvyas kamaths performance is fine..but not very great or something very awesome....Because since Vedvyas kamaths term, nothing big project and considerable venture have been come up in Mangaluru..Only small smart city works are carried by smart city funds...Even pumpwell bus stand could not materialize....Mangaluru people should always change its politicians ...or else they become lazy and dont work...Cant belive Mangaluru people still vote for that Nalin kumar as MP despite his utter low performance..Arent Mangaluru people not jealous of Mysuru MP Pratap simha...who made rapid progress in Mysuru.....

If JR Lobo fielded, Ivan group will work for his defeat. If Ivan is fielded, JR Lobo followers will work to defeat Ivan. Unlike BJP voters, whoever the party fields, voter blindly support the candidate without looking his past & present, Congress is completely opposite to BJP. Congress candidates are defeated by congress "Binnamatiyaru". Teamwork & party winning attitude lacks always!!! So, its better field, Mr. Padmaraj, who is eligible candidate also.

Added to that will be the billawa jealousy " jaathig jaathi page", that's why BJP wins, catholics want their representatives even if it means a defeat, wasn't JRL fielded last time? For once this time the Catholics should vote for any Cong candidate than vote for AAP in spite to teach Cong a lesson, splitting votes and helping BJP to win, billawas should vote sensibly too, Kamath has been destructive and disruptive to mangalore, people should be rewarded or shown the door based on their performance as elected representatives. Vote sensibly people.

Lets be fair and pragmatic and not simply shout Jai Jai. BJP and also other non-Cong opposition parties are almost done with their door to door campaigning . They started it when COVID rules were relaxed in mid 2021. Isnt it too late to launch a brand new candidate, especially who has not been heard off , in the political circles? Padmaraja may be good lawyer, God fearing , one who visits temples etc. But to oust BJP in Mangalore requires at least 2-3 years of home work and campaigning. The pulse of the people is totally different. Moreover the performance of Vedvyasa has been just outstanding. If Cong assumes that Padmaraja will split majority communities votes, they should also realize that minorities are divided as well. The options have increased considerably.

David. You are not in terms with reality. Christian voters are not enough for Congress to win elections in Mangalore. Moreover Christian voters have also split in terms of affiliation. Many have hopped on to other band wagons for lucrative posts , moolah & careers. The other parties have been targetting well educated Christian youngsters, business famalies etc. Young entraprauners find the BJP more friendly for their set up. Plus they enjoy the clout and get their stuff done with ease. It also sounds cool and look different for these guys to say, I support AAP, or I support BJP minority Morcha.

@ Paisam, Even if you say Christian votes outnumber other communities in South Mangalore, never ever think all Christians vote for the same party all the time. If we go by your belief (Christian votes are more in South Mangalore) it will be a cakewalk for BJP if they field a Christian candidate.

@john read my comments once again. I explain 2 you 1nce again:christians r not a majority in south mangalore, in hindus caste wise like billava, gsb, bunts etc... scores among caste wise christians r in majority. think all christians will not vote but majority will vote like wise billavas, bunts and gsb's all2gether will no vote to bjp alone, yet some will vote to christian candidate. moreover don't even dream dat bjp will field a christian candidate in mangalore south.

It's time to unite & oust Vedavyas or his destruction of Mangalore city, dug up naked roads, incomplete work everywhere and ugly flexes thanking themselves for doing their jobs.

The only Congress candidate who can oust Vedvyas Kamat is Abdul Khader. So Khader should be given this Congress seat to contest. Ullala to be give to someone else , perhaps a new candidate. I who read news papers daily have not heard of this gentleman. Not sure, how he will be launched now to fight an already 'deeply entrenched' party and a popular candidate like Kamath in his own strong bastion.
