5 Rafale jets land safely at Indian Air Force airbase in Ambala

New Delhi, Jul 29 (IANS): Five of the 36 medium multi-role Rafale fighter jets built by French aircraft manufacturer Dassault landed safely at the IAF airbase in Ambala on Wednesday afternoon. Significantly, the frontline IAF airbase is likely to be used in case of conflict at the northern or the western borders.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in a tweet, "The Birds have landed safely in Ambala."

"The touchdown of Rafale combat aircraft in India marks the beginning of a new era in our Military History. These multirole aircrafts will revolutionise the capabilities of the @IAF_MCC," the minister added.

Interestingly, the new additions, the fighter stable of Indian Air Force, are named after current Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal R.K.S. Bhadauria.

Of the two squadrons of the Rafale fighters, one would be based in Ambala for the western borders in Pakistan, while the second squadron would be based Hasimara in West Bengal and will be dedicated for the China border where Indian and Chinese People's Liberation Army troops are engaged in a border standoff, which left 20 Indian and unknown number of Chinese soldiers dead following a bloody clash on June 15.

The five Rafale jets joined the Indian Air Force on Wednesday and the ones to follow after this will not have the India specific changes that make them more lethal and potent.

The Defence Minister thanked the French Government, Dassault Aviation and other French companies for ensuring the timely delivery of the aircraft and its weapons, despite severe restrictions posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that the aircraft have very good flying performance and their weapons, radar and other sensors and electronic warfare capabilities are among the best in the world.

"Its arrival in India will make the IAF much stronger to deter any threat that may be posed on our country," he tweeted.

India finds itself stretched between the borders with China, where it is locked in an intense standoff, and also with Pakistan, where it is countering incessant cross-border firing from a hostile Pakistan army.

Rajnath Singh also said that those who want to threaten India's territorial integrity should be worried about the new capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

The minster also said that the Rafale jets were purchased when they fully met the operational requirements of the IAF. He also rebuffed allegations of getting the Rafale jets by paying dearly to France.

He said, "The baseless allegations against this procurement have already been answered and settled."

Over the past few years we have made the already rich countries like France, US, Israel and Russia richer with these billions of dollars worth defense deals with tax payers money, making the average citizens poorer but the super rich even richer. So much for slogans like Make in India, Atma Nirbhar etc..Truly wise leadership would avert border conflicts with diplomacy.

So you want our soldiers to go in a bullock cart and fight with 303 police rifles or like Clint Eastwood to go on horseback and fight with shotgun and revolvers. My dear same Rafale jets are going to be produced in India. Wakeup.

Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns belong to another era. In this era, competition is won by economic development. Look at the developed world, for them arms is a big industry, they manufacture them and dump them on poor countries making them poorer. Talking about Rafale, do you think it's a wise choice? As per Dr Swamy, they are worst aircraft in the world, Many countries which had placed orders, scrapped MoU later. He even had threatened legal recourse had India gone ahead with the deal, May be after seeing Ambani connection, chose to keep quiet. https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/m.rediff.com/amp/news/report/rafale-fighter-jet-deal-will-swamy-take-the-legal-road-now/20150411.htm

If you wait for the economy to improve sucking the thumb China will swallow India. Still you are in sleep. It is Manmohan Singh who did the deal. Dr Swamy is not an aeronautical Engineer to certify the quality of Aircraft.
The Rafale, with its “Omnirole” capabilities, is the right answer to the capability approach selected by an increasing number of governments.

It fully complies with the requirement to carry out the widest range of roles with the smallest number of aircraft.

The Rafale participates in permanent “Quick Reaction Alert” (QRA) / air-defense / air sovereignty missions, power projection and deployments for external missions, deep strike missions, air support for ground forces, reconnaissance missions, pilot training sorties and nuclear deterrence duties.

While you're celebrating the coming of Rafale. Don't forget it was UPA which had inked the deal to purchased 126 Rafale for 42,000 crores while 108 of would be manufactured by HAL in India with technology transfer. But Modi scrapped that deal to purchase just 36 Rafales for 60,000 crores to help benefit Choto Ambani.

Why so much 'puli' ?? For sure you are more than 6 years in age.

How much did previous governments boast whenever a delivery of fighter jet received ? A purchase out of taxpayers' money. Or, is this it first time an combat aircraft is purchased ? Or, is Rafale purchased out of BJP political leaders' personal asset, hence so much cheer ?

That is the difference in earlier 70 years' governments and that is running now.

The project of Rafael deal was planned by Manmohan Singh with consultation of IAF in 2011.Now nobody give credit to the economist and nobody talk how much we paid for the jets.Instead everyone is boasting about the capability of the new Jets.we should not forget that our country becomes more poor and year by year spending more on defence. Our roads are never completed ,our bullet train is stuck in the barrel, our trains are stuck at 60 km speed where as China all routes are upgraded to 300km speed. Our news are anchors are degrading china's defence strength though the PM never used the word China.where are we heading ..
