Davanagere, Jul 2: Close on the heels of a report from Ballari where mortal remains of COVID patients which were disposed of together in a pit comes the report that dishonourable disposal of bodies also have happened in Davanagere and Yadagiri districts. It is learnt that similar incidents have recurred in Channagiri (Davanagere district) and Honagera village in Yadagiri district.

A 56-year-old lady from Kumbarabeedi in Channagiri town had died of coronavirus infection. Her body was carried away with the help of a backhoe and tossed into a pit. A video of this scene has become viral.

The 56-year-old lady was admitted into McGann hospital Shivamogga on June 17 due to respiratory problems. She had died there, after which her test result confirmed that she was infected by coronavirus. Her body was taken in a JCB. It is said that senior officials in the district administration and the police department were present when this happened.

Yadagiri

In the other incident which happened in Honagera village of Yadagiri district, a 45-year-old person, who had suffered severe breathing problems when taking part in his daughter's marriage at Sirwar in Raichur district on Sunday, was being taken to Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences when his end came. His throat swab sample was tested and the result was positive. When burying, the body in the land belonging to the deceased's brother, two persons wearing PPE kits, tied the bag containing the mortal remains to a wooden beam and dragged it away before tossing it into the pit.

The chief minister has already said that six persons have been suspended relating to the Ballari incident. Davanagere deputy commissioner, Mahantesh Beelagi, said that all funerals in the district were conducted as per the COVID rules and government guidelines. He said that if there are any lapses, the concerned would be moved against.
