Bantwal: 29-year-old meets watery grave in Netravathi river

Bantwal, Mar 26: A 29-year-old man drowned in Netravathi River near Mani in Bantwal on Thursday, March 26. The youth with his friends had ventured into the river for bath, when the mishap happened.

The deceased is identified as Rahim.

On Thursday afternoon, Rahim along with his friends ventured into the river for a dip. While his friends were near the river bank, Rahim ventured deeper into the water. Rahim lost balance and drowned. He also shouted for help. However, none of his friends knew swimming and he could not be saved.

A rescue team along with police from Bantwal fished out the body from the river.

A case has been registered at Bantwal police station.

    Govt should place sign boards in English and Kannada, where people go to river for bath, thus:

    "There is drowning hazard for people who venture deep into the river
    People not knowing swimming should wear life jackets and
    Non swimmer survivors who disobeyed the rules will be prosecuted"

    Hope you know that we are on lock down period not on picnic.. dont expect to provide life jacket and police to watch you swimming..

    In india people find it hard to afford chaddi and u r talking abt life jacket in a place where they don't even bother to wear helmets.

    People not cooperating with the Government. But simply blaming administration.
