Bengaluru, Feb 15: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders, including Dinesh Gundu Rao, were detained by the police when they tried to take out a protest march to chief minister C M Yediyurappa's office here on Saturday February 15.

The protest was against the BJP-led state government condemning the sedition case filed against Shaheen school in Bidar over a play regarding the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in which students allegedly insulted the Prime Minister. The headmistress of the school and a parent of a student were arrested soon after, and released on bail after nearly two weeks.

The Congress leaders alleged that the state government had 'misused' the police department in slapping the sedition case against the school.

When the Congress leaders tried to take out the protest march, the police intervened and detained them. Siddaramaiah was detained by the police near Race Course Road.

News agency ANI quoted Dinesh Gundu Rao as saying, "Police is being misused by this government, those who raise their voices against the central government and BJP are being booked for sedition. We are going to protest in front of the chief minister's office."

Congress leaders Rizwan Arshad and D K Suresh were also detained by the police.

Tight security has been deployed around the CM's office in anticipation of the protest.

Move over Congress. AAP is here. The AAP is soon going national, please support the idea to create a great opposition party. The Congress has been give enough chances to revive and it does not look like. The leader itself who lost his family constituency does not look confident .All these 'protest' gimmicks wont work as a revival strategy. Its better for your guys to provide moral support to AAP . New young leaders with new ideas , lets set the path for target 2024 as AAP sarkar in India.

Agreed. Congress is not a party for dynamic young and talented leaders anymore,, Its limited for old people who have no vision above development and just chamchas of the first family. The trend has continued and the damage has been done.

No developments will take place in the State except the usual Dombarata. Political parties wants power just to enjoy their life at the cost of poor people who voted them to power.
