Kasargod, Sep 14: The public caught and handed over a Tamil Nadu-based woman to the police for attempting to steal a three-pavan gold chain from an elderly woman who was alighting from a bus in Hosangadi. The arrested accused has been identified as Muthaatha (40), a native of Madurai.
The incident took place around 2 pm on Sunday. The accused attempted to steal the gold chain belonging to Prema (77), a resident of Bangramanjeshwar. Prema was returning to Hosangadi from Mangaluru in a KSRTC bus after attending a relative's wedding reception.

While Prema was alighting from the bus at the Hosangadi stop, a woman wearing a chudidar, who was directly behind her, cleverly tried to snip the chain. A young female co-passenger noticed this and immediately brought it to Prema's attention. Alerted instantly, the co-passengers and local public surrounded and stopped the accused woman.
The public then informed the Manjeshwar police and handed her over. The police stated that several theft cases have already been registered against the arrested woman across various stations, and she is currently being subjected to intense interrogation.
