Mangaluru: Gold, cigarettes worth Rs 16 lac smuggled from Dubai seized at airport

Mangaluru, Nov 5: The customs officials, who detected gold and cigarettes being smuggled into the country through the international airport here, seized them in two separate cases. Two passengers were arrested in this connection. 

252.98 grams of gold worth Rs 9.65 lac was confiscated from a passenger who arrived on November 4 by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. The passenger had hidden gold in the form of tiny chunks hidden in the toys of children. 


In the other incident, a person who came here on October 29 by a SpiceJet flight from Dubai was found carrying cigarettes of different brands worth Rs 6.23 lac. The cigarettes, which were stuffed into 211 packets, were confiscated.

    Dear Custom Department, Please publish the customs rules in the Airport, People do not know the rules that how much gold or other things they can carry while coming to India after their short visit in Dubai.

    As the days pass the reports of gold and other contraband goods catch in Mangaluru airport will reduce!!
    HOpe everyone knows the reason...Airport is privatized..so deal will be stuck between airport management, customs and the smugglers.
