BMC forms panel to investigate strange 'gas' smell

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SHP)

Mumbai, Sep 22: Earlier this week on Tuesday, a strange smell caused panic among the residents of Mumbai suburbs. To identify the cause of the smell, BMC formed a panel of experts which includes professionals from IIT and NEERI and along with other civic officials.

The panel of experts were given the task to examine the 140 phone calls the police, fire department and disaster control room received regarding the smell.

In response to the complaints, gas, chemical and petroleum companies have stated that they are in no way responsible for the smell. Besides, the civic body has recommended residents to take precautionary measures against the smell.

However, some of the experts have also considered investigating whether the smell has been caused by weather conditions and pollutants.
