Mangaluru: MP Nalin promises action on Suratkal tollgate issue

Daijiworld Media Network - Suratkal (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Member of Parliament (MP), Nalin Kumar Kateel, said that he will exert pressure on National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) not to collect toll charges to local vehicles at Suratkal tollgate.

MP Nalin said, "I have already proposed to either cancel the Suratkal tollgate or merge it with the Hejamadi tollgate in the important meetings of the highway department that have taken place in Bengaluru. In addition, a letter in this regard has also been written. Now, I have got information that the private local vehicles are being charged toll. I will contact the chairman of NHAI during the Parliament session and direct him officially not to collect the toll from local residents."

Nalin also said that on Saturday, July 20 he called the officials of NHAI and the contractors of the tollgate and asked them not to collect the toll from local vehicles temporarily.

In the past several times MP has promised action on Suratkal tollgate but as of today no strict action has been taken. Now he is promising no toll is being collected for local vehicles temporarily. Why temporary only, why it can not be permanent. How long this promise will continue. In the first place Suratkal tollgate has been constructed unscientifically and illegally within the short distance of 15 KM and it should be closed with immediate effect or merge with Hejamadi tollgate. We the vehicle owners are suffering by way of paying taxes first when we buy our vehicles and again by way of tollgate.Everywhere we have to pay the taxes/toll.There is no end for that.Whom to be blamed.MPs or NHAI?.Ridiculous it is. In the name of loses, collecting toll from the public by the contractor is not advisable.MP should exerts more pressure on NHAI and contractors for not to collect toll permanently for local vehicles or to merge with Hejamadi tollgate.

Illegal toll in Surathkal should be merged other toll as the distance is very close.MP can't open his mouth because he was definitely paid for that.number one MP did not do any tangible project or service to Mangaloreans bjp or nalin or modi not banking votes on development instead divisive politics.every thing has law of marginal utility.

Nalinanna, Please cancel Suratkal toll gate with immediate effect. Consider DK (udupi and mangalore) one district and don't allow NHAI to collect toll gate every where in the twin district.

    NOT TO COLLECT TOLL TEMPORARILY
Why temporarily, why not once and for all
For construction of highways, and other
    public infrastructure, the government of
India borrows money from the World Bank
and IMF, the toll is collected for the maintenance
    of the highways.

In the case of this Contractor who is favoured to
construct this highway since a decade, it does not
call for collection of a toll charge, as the highway
is not complete at all, and if Mr, Naleen has driven
a car or a bike on this highway, he would have
experienced the amount of water logging due to bad design
of the road and the poor quality that is worked upon due to
the unimaginable delay in completion. (Karnataka is a wet region,
and roads and highways should be tapered on either side with
a good drainage to evacuate the water.
