Mangaluru, Jun 13: Almost all the areas in the coast registered good rainfall on Wednesday June 12. All the taluks in the twin-districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada reported good rains including on Wednesday night.

National Natural Disaster Force is in readiness to handle any eventuality. 50 personnel of the tenth Battalion from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh have arrived to handle exigencies arising out of rain. Minister U T Khader has already convened meetings with officials of different departments and discussed with them about the preparedness to handle monsoon-related issues.

The sea has been hostile since the last some days at Tannirbhavi and Panambur beaches here. As a measure of precaution, barricades have been set up to ensure that tourists do not enter the sea.

The house of Kumbaramakki Raghu Shetty from Kullunje in Shankarnarayana village in Udupi district was partially damaged after a mango tree got uprooted. Although four family members were inside the house then, their lives were saved as they were in another portion of the house. The house of Kamala Acharthi from Kalikamba Nagar of Maravanthemane in Alur village in Kundapur taluk too was damaged due to strong wind and rain. Brahmagiri in Udupi experienced artificial floods because of absence of proper drainage system. Nairkere mosque was covered by water on all sides.

Several electric poles got uprooted on Wednesday due to rain and wind within the limits of Hebri branch of Mescom.

Sea waves have been hitting protective wall created by the stacking of boulders. In several places including Kaup Kaipunjal Bobbarya Daivasthana, Padu school, near Yard Beach and Jolly Friends beach, the waves have been strong and the boulders forming protective wall face the risk of getting washed into the depths of the sea.

In Bedrody Janata Colony in Bajattur village near Uppinangady, the protective wall built by Shariff crashed on the roof of the house belonging to Nawaz, which is located below Shariff's house. Several items including refrigerator and television set were damaged in the incident.
