Kundapur, May 15: Generally, people who make commendable contribution to the fields of literature, arts, sports and social work, are felicitated by various organizations in the society. But a rare felicitation programme is being held in the taluk for the past two years, in which hardworking people who are on the lower strata of the society are being felicitated.

Narayan, a resident of Padukone and hard worker had become a model by his work during his lifetime. His children have started a programme of choosing a hard worker every year and honouring such a person with cash reward on the death anniversary of their father late Narayan Padukone.

A carpenter engaged in the construction of houses was felicitated last year. The award for 2019 was given to Padukone Bhandaramane Nanu alias Narayana Naika, who has been religiously doing the job of cutting firewood since the last 40 years.

Speaking after felicitating Narayana Naika, retired lecturer and veteran journalist S Janardhan Maravante, chief guest of the event that was held at Hakkigoodu, Padukone said, “Identifying a hard working individual and felicitating him on the death anniversary of Padukone Narayan is rare and commendable. Narayan has done his work during all the seasons of the year with dedication. He has worked hard by maintaining his health and showed value-based path of life to the young members of his family. The ideals of his life and his clean, traditional ways have given him this award. He gave education to his children and also managed his family by cutting firewood for the last 40 years.”

Gopalakrishna multi-purpose service cooperative society president, Kolloor Mookambika temple managing committee member K Ramesh Ganiga, society director Shashikala Narayan, labour leader Suresh Kallagara, P N Sridhar Padukone and Srinivas were present.

Award selection committee’s Rajiv Padukone welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest and eminent personalities. Rajaguru rendered the vote of thanks.

Congratulations Narayana Naika for your hard and dedicated work....cutting firewood manually with AXE( Madu) is a very hard work indeed.....I am sure your hard work entitles you with good health by default....

In my childhood we had a similarly hard working fire wood cutter called Govinda Naika popularly called as Gondu Naik....he was a very hard worker too...When I was a child ...I used to go and watch him cutting wood with his Axe....he used to tell me lot of stories of 'Kudpal Bhootha'.....I still remember him and his stories...these RSB's are very hard workers and agriculturists....

    ...Tak...Takk...
