Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School conducts enlightening Teacher Enrichment Programmes

Mangaluru, Apr 17: To enhance the professional skills of teachers and to mould them as competent teachers, time and again, St Aloysius Gonzaga School has been conducting Teacher Enrichment Programmes. This time it was in collaboration with the Catholic Association of South Kanara, popularly known as CASK, coordinated by Patsy Lobo, vice president of this century old organisation.

The members of CASK, well known for their intellectual eminence, took turns to enrich the teachers on different topics throughout the workshop. The workshop which started with a session in February, continued on April 15 and 16.



On the first day, Bharti Shevgoor spoke on effective communication skills which are essential for teachers. Anand and Geetha Pereira took an interesting session on bio diversity in Western Ghats, harmful effects of plastic on mother earth and ways to reduce pollution by 3 r’s, reduce, reuse and recycle. There was also an enlightening session on teacher – pupil relationship by Sangeetha Ferrao followed by a stress-busting zumba session by Anjali Shenoy.

The second day bubbled with talks on finanical planning for teachers by Archibald Menezes, educational reforms in India, by Derek Lobo, coping with challenges, discovering my qualities, by vivacious coordinator of the programme, Patsy Lobo which made the teachers recharge with new thoughts, ready to face the next academic year.

Teachers had brainstorming games on creative well and lighting candles to symbolise exchange and spread of knowledge.

There were also motivational sessions on re-inventing teaching by Manoj Fernandes and Vidya Shenoy on public speaking which was held in February.

The finale of the Teacher Enrichment Programme was held in a unique way by distributing certificates and trophies to the participants who marched in with pride wearing a sachet with slogans.

The principal Grace Noronha and principal designate Fr Melwin Anil Lobo S J distributed the certificates and trophies. President of CASK, Nayana wished the participants good luck.

As refreshments were served, the two day workshop left behind knowledge and ideas received by different speakers, in the minds of teachers who were grateful to these eminent speakers.
